Children battling rare diseases — and the families navigating alongside them — are defined by exactly this quality. An extraordinary resilience under conditions most people will never face. The crocodile carries that meaning without sentimentality.
Type 1 diabetes
Life for a Child
Life for a Child helps children with Type 1 Diabetes in low-resource countries gain access to insulin, glucose monitoring supplies, diabetes education, and medical care. Today, the program supports more than 70,000 children and young people and works to ensure that a diagnosis of T1D does not become a life-threatening condition simply because of where a child is born.
Horses have a uniquely demanding metabolism. They require precise, consistent glucose management — a horse running on the wrong fuel does not simply slow down; it can collapse. Their performance, health, and survival depend on balance in exactly this system.
This maps with unusual directness to what type 1 diabetes demands: constant, vigilant management of the same system, every hour of every day. The horse is a quiet acknowledgment of that invisible daily effort.
